Philosophy of Love – course in London

Autumn Term 2014, Mondays, 13:00 – 15:00pm, ten weeks starting 6th October

Course Tutor: Jane O’Grady.

Falling in love – an action or an event? Involuntary and instinctive, or just a cultural and individual concoction? Do we love a real person, or an illusion, or simply our own feelings? The course examines what philosophers like Plato, Schopenhauer and Sartre say about erotic love, and looks at evolutionary biology, neuroscience, anthropology, literature, the history of Courtly Love, and emotions in general.
